The Nuclear Medicine Centers in Europe are accredited by European Union of Medical Specialists – UEMS and European Board of Nuclear Medicine – EBNM.
The European Union of Medical Specialists is an organization that has been formed 45 years ago for representing the European Union States and candidate states’ medical specializations. Its basic purpose is to determine the specialization training in medicine in the European States and to facilitate the free movement of medical specialists within the European Union as to have equal leveled high information. Specialization departments have been formed for 34 basic medical fields in the European Union states and for each specialization field, the training and practice standards have been developed.
Nuclear Medicine is recognized as an independent medicine field in the European Union since 1988. UEMS Nuclear Medicine Department has been established in 1990 and in 1993, “European Board of Nuclear Medicine” (EBNM) has been established by the European Association of Nuclear Medicine. These two formations became a single organization in 2003 and started to continue their functions. UEMN/EBNM, which is the scientific and official organization of Europe in Nuclear Medicine field, has started to issue accreditation in 2003 for Nuclear Medicine Centers.
The number of the centers been accredited until 2006 is 35.

As of 2008, 11 out of totally 54 accredited Nuclear Medicine Centers in Europe are located in Istanbul/Turkey and operated by MNT
The accreditation certificates have been given with ceremony during the European Nuclear Medicine Congress held in Athens between September 30th – October 4th, 2006. As of October 2006, our Nuclear Medicine Departments that have gained the right to have ISO 9001:2000 certificate in April 2006 have taken their places in the first institutes of our country having European Accreditation. In year 2007, accreditation applications for the Nuclear Medicine departments of Izmir Kent Hospital and Acıbadem Bursa hospitals will be submitted.
